Description
Barely were we out before the shopkeeper cried, “Stop! You didn’t pay for that! Thief!”
I froze, as the only thing in my hands was the freshly wrapped doll; Lucien, however, whirled on Tom, looking as though he was about to murder him. The shopkeeper, however, marched out from behind the counter and snatched a tin soldier out from...Lucien’s pocket.
“What!” Lucien recoiled from the soldier as if it were a snake.
“You’d better pay for this!”
“Luce, I am shocked. Frankly, I’m ashamed to know you,” Tom said austerely, tucking his thumbs in his suspenders and looking Lucien up and down. “A man of your upbringing...turned to a life of thievery!”

I felt so bad for Lucien during this scene, but I'm afraid my sympathy was rathe ineffdctive because I was giggling at Tom.
